Mesh Fence Banners in Akron, Cleveland & Northeast Ohio
A solid banner on a chain-link fence is a sail. The wind does not pass through it, so it pushes on it — and on the posts, the grommets and the ties holding it there.
That is why most fence banners come down early. Not because the print failed, but because the material caught a March afternoon of wind and something had to give. Mesh is the fix: perforated vinyl that lets the wind through the banner instead of fighting it. We print it and install it on athletic fence, stadium fence and perimeter fence across Akron, Cleveland, Canton and the rest of Northeast Ohio.
Mesh reads as solid from the bleachers
Micro-perforated mesh vinyl is printed full color on the front face. Standing at the fence you can see the perforations. From thirty feet, which is where anybody actually reads a fence banner, it reads as a solid printed panel. Chain-link reads as nothing from the bleachers. A printed windscreen on it reads as a stadium.
What you get, and what it is made of
- Custom printed mesh banner, full color across the front face
- Micro-perforated mesh vinyl, which lets wind through rather than catching it like a solid banner
- UV inks, printed on the front face
- Heat-welded hems all the way around
- Rust-proof brass grommets at 2 foot centers on every edge
- White or black backing, your choice when you send artwork
- Mounting with nylon zip ties or bungee balls through the grommets onto chain-link
Stock widths are 10, 15 and 20 feet. Stock heights are 3, 4, 5 and 6 feet. Those are the sizes athletic fence runs actually come in, which is why they are stocked that way.
Black backing or white backing
Black backing blocks what is behind the fence, so artwork on the front holds its contrast against a bright sky or a parking lot. It is the usual choice for baseball, softball and tennis, where a clean sightline behind the ball matters. White backing gives a plain bright finish on the reverse, which suits a perimeter fence where people walk on both sides.
Working out how many you need
Measure the total run in feet and divide by 10, 15 or 20 depending on which width you want. Measure the fence height as well — athletic chain-link is usually 4 feet or 6 feet — and match the banner height to it, so the top row of grommets lands on the top rail and the bottom row sits near the ground.
If the run does not divide cleanly, or the fence is an odd height, or the graphic is going on a wall rather than a fence, custom size mesh is cut to whatever you measure and priced by the square foot. Send the total linear feet and the fence height and we will tell you which way is cheaper.
Sponsor sets
Most fence banners are paid for by local sponsors rather than out of the athletic budget, one banner per sponsor. A full set can be printed as one order and shipped together, which is usually cheaper and always simpler than ordering them one at a time as sponsors sign. If the set grows through the season, keeping the artwork files on one order makes the second batch match the first.
Installation
Two people and a bag of heavy-duty zip ties. Tie the two top corners first, pull the banner taut along the top rail, then work down the sides and across the bottom. Grommets at 2 foot centers means about fourteen ties on a 10 foot by 4 foot banner. Grounds crews and booster volunteers do this without special equipment, and plenty of schools do.
For schools and facilities in Northeast Ohio we will come out and measure the fence at no charge, and hang the banners if you would rather not put volunteers on a ladder. Installation is quoted separately from printing, because a 300 foot outfield run and a single sponsor panel are not the same job.
Beyond the ballfield
The same material goes on construction fence, event perimeter fence and temporary site fence, for the same reason: it is the wind that decides whether the graphic survives the job. For hoarding, barricades and site enclosure graphics, see construction barricade graphics. For scoreboard and stadium work, see school and athletic branding.
Common questions
Why mesh instead of a regular vinyl banner on a fence?
Wind. A solid banner catches it and pushes on the fence, the grommets and the ties. Mesh is perforated, so the wind passes through the material instead of loading it. On a long fence run that is the difference between a banner that stays up all season and one that bows the posts or tears its grommets out in the first storm.
What sizes do mesh fence banners come in?
Stock widths are 10, 15 and 20 feet, and stock heights are 3, 4, 5 and 6 feet, hemmed and grommeted ready to hang. Anything outside that is cut to the size you measure and priced by the square foot.
How are they attached to the fence?
Nylon zip ties or bungee balls through brass grommets set at 2 foot centers on every edge. Tie the two top corners first, pull the banner taut along the top rail, then work down the sides and across the bottom. A 10 foot by 4 foot banner takes about fourteen ties.
Should the backing be black or white?
Black backing blocks what is behind the fence, so the artwork holds its contrast against a bright sky or a parking lot. It is the usual choice for baseball, softball and tennis, where a clean sightline behind the ball matters. White backing gives a plain bright finish on the reverse, which suits a perimeter fence people walk on both sides of.
